VIR Testing (Visual Inspection Report)
A Visual Inspection Report (VIR) is an annual inspection required for Landlords 12 months after an Electrical Installation Condition Report.
A VIR is a survey of your electrical wiring system, to discover and identify any visible signs of damage, defects or deterioration of the electrical installation and to determine whether it complies with the current BS7671 electrical safety standard.
You may be held liable for unidentified hazards. As such, if you are not qualified to work with electricals, do the right thing by your tenants and book your VIR with our competent and qualified electricians. You may be held liable for unidentified hazards.
When do I need a Visual Inspection Report (VIR)?
A VIR is required 12 months after an EICR.
Upon tenancy changeover you should have a qualified electrician check your fuse board and accessories for signs of electrical hazards.
Need to know
This type of inspection does not involve any circuit testing, therefore, on its own it cannot fully determine whether the installation is completely safe for continued use. You should make sure your EICR is up to date.
